Job SummaryUnder the direction of a Radiation Oncologist and in collaboration with other members of the health care team, uses advanced clinical skills to accurately simulate on CT simulators, deliver, verify and record routine as well as advanced courses of treatment. Assumes shift accountability including machine warm-ups. Cleans, disinfects and maintains supplies and equipment in the treatment and simulation rooms as appropriate. Participates in annual educational seminars as well as departmental and organizational projects and committees. Utilizes independent judgment and problem solving skills in communicating with patients/family members and employees.Essential Functions
Accurately performs advanced radiation treatments as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist. Accurately follows, maintains and completes the patient electronic treatment record on a daily basis. Responsible for general dose calculations.
Accurately performs advanced radiation treatments and procedures (SRS, SRT, TBI, HT, HDR, and IGRT) independently as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist. Charges correctly at point of service on a daily basis. Able to troubleshoot equipment faults and notify appropriate employee(s) and/or vendor for repair.
Responsible for being on call at least one weekend per calendar year, including holiday, if call at primary site.
Assumes shift accountability for maintenance of quality services. Responsible for opening the department and proficient in machine warm- ups. Responsible for completing the crash cart checklist if called in on a day department is closed.
Accurately simulates more complex set ups in a timely manner, actively participates in contrast simulations with contrast sign off, collects all pertinent simulation information and enters pertinent information in approved departmental/hospital based record and verification system.
Accurately performs electron block and custom bolus fabrication.
Respectfully identifies the needs of patients and family members/students/health care professionals and implements appropriate teaching strategies or makes appropriate referrals. Actively participates in the achievement and maintenance of patient satisfaction scores, by researching and resolving problems.
Ensures that processes and services are continuously monitored for quality, cost effectiveness, and efficiency. Engages in process and quality improvement activities. Makes and implements recommendations to improve operational efficiency and to implement new services for areas of responsibility. Actively participates in departmental projects assigned.
Qualifications
Required Vocational/Technical Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy Program
Required Bachelor's Degree or equivalent a related field
2 years of relevant experience approved Radiation Therapy setting Required
CRT-Radiation Therapist - ARRT American Registry of Radiologic Technologist Upon Hire required
CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 90 Days required Or
CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 90 Days required
