On-site IT Technician (Chromebook and Hardware Support) - Part Time

TechKooks is seeking a skilled and customer-focused On-site IT Technician to provide hands-on technical support for academy of students and staff. The technician will primarily be responsible for managing and troubleshooting hardware issues related to student Chromebooks, staff laptops (HP and Dell), and other technology infrastructure. This is a part-time, on-site position requiring presence at a school academy for three days a week, four hours per day.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a school environment, responding to a variety of IT issues, and providing excellent customer service to both students and staff. In addition to handling technical issues, the technician will play a key role in maintaining accurate hardware inventory and ensuring that all devices are operational and properly maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

Hardware Support:

Diagnose and repair Chromebook issues such as screen damage, battery replacements, and system malfunctions.

Provide technical support for staff laptops (HP and Dell), resolving hardware and software issues.

Conduct preventive maintenance, including hardware checks and device health assessments.

Device Inventory Management:

Maintain an accurate inventory of Chromebooks, ensuring each device is properly cataloged and tracked.

Assist with device check-ins and check-outs, ensuring proper procedures are followed for student Chromebooks.

Coordinate with school staff to ensure devices are ready for use in classrooms, and replenish carts as necessary.

On-Site Troubleshooting:

Offer timely assistance to students and staff experiencing issues with their devices.

Be available during scheduled hours (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, from 8 AM to 12 PM) for immediate technical support.

Perform on-the-spot repairs when feasible or escalate issues requiring further attention.

License and Software Management:

Assist with updating Chromebook licenses and ensuring software is up-to-date.

Support Google Admin maintenance tasks, helping to troubleshoot and optimize device management through the Google Admin console.

Collaboration and Communication:

Work closely with the school’s IT staff and external vendors to ensure seamless integration of hardware and network services.

Document and report all support requests and resolutions, maintaining a detailed log for future reference.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered.

Experience:

Minimum of 3-5+ years of experience providing hands-on hardware support, preferably in a school or similar environment.

Experience with Chromebook repair and management, including Google Admin console.

Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and troubleshooting hardware issues with HP and Dell laptops.

Technical Skills:

Proficient in diagnosing and repairing common hardware issues with Chromebooks and laptops.

Ability to manage device inventory systems and track hardware distribution.

Knowledge of Google Workspace (G Suite) and Microsoft Office 365.

Basic networking knowledge (Wi-Fi troubleshooting, connectivity issues) is a plus.

Soft Skills:

Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining technical solutions to non-technical staff and students.

Ability to manage time efficiently and work independently.

Customer-service-oriented, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.

Schedule and Compensation:

Hours: 12 hours per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 8 AM - 12 PM).

Compensation: $30-$45/hour depending on experience.
