Senior Plant Engineer

Job Title: Sr. Plant EngineerJob DescriptionWe are seeking a Plant Engineer to oversee and optimize our extrusion production processes. The Plant Engineer will be responsible for improving manufacturing efficiency, managing capital projects, and leading special projects. This role offers the opportunity to work in a rapidly expanding company with a diverse range of aluminum extrusion services.Responsibilities

Oversee the aluminum extrusion production process including Finishing, Powder Coating, and Fill & Debridge processes from design to completion.

Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.

Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to refine production layout designs.

Identify optimization opportunities in Extrusion, Fabrication, and Powder Coating operations to improve production, reduce process variation, stabilize machine operations, and reduce scrap material.

Utilize EPICS data management system to effectively control and manage information throughout the plant, using modules and add-on features to improve productivity.

Evaluate equipment failures and develop solutions for failures.

Draft and design extrusion shapes, packaging diagrams, and equipment plans with AutoCAD.

Recommend and participate in new or replacement equipment selection to optimize operations and assist in standardizing components used throughout the plant.

Collaborate with the management team to assist in the development of the annual budget process via scope development, project descriptions, solicitation for quotes, and total budget costs of projects.

Assist in developing and monitoring engineering or maintenance procedures that are safe and effective.

Analyze process measurements and maintain detailed notes of observations.

Work on improving manufacturing metrics such as man-hours, material yield, equipment utilization, and reject rate.

Analyze production costs, cost-saving methods, and the effects of production process changes on expenditures for management review, action, and control.

Develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes to improve production efficiency and shorten manufacturing lead time.

Create and maintain SOPs for finishing processes to ensure quality and consistency.

Contribute to and lead continuous improvement or lean improvement projects.

Troubleshoot production issues and implement effective solutions.

Confer with customers, vendors, and the operation team regarding purchasing, product specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and/or project status.

Train and monitor production teams on extrusion processes and best practices.

Assist the team in fostering a culture of safety across all levels, particularly on the production floors.

Essential Skills

Bachelor’s degree in industrial, manufacturing, mechanical engineering, or related field preferred, but significant experience in lieu of a degree is acceptable.

Minimum of 5 years of industrial or process engineering experience with expertise in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement, preferably in the aluminum extrusion industry.

Solid knowledge of extrusion machinery and equipment.

Proficiency in AutoCAD.

Exceptional problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently and be results-oriented.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience with PLC is a plus but not required.

Work EnvironmentYou will work directly with the General Manager, Sr Process Engineers, the Plant Manager, and general production workers. Most of your time will be spent out in the plant. The environment is not climate controlled but is very clean despite some dust from the extrusion process.
