Mechanical Engineer

Since 1985, Data Security, Inc. has been the world leader of National Security Agency (NSA) approved degaussers for the Department of Defense (DoD). As data storage technologies continue to evolve, the NSA continues to develop new standards for erasing, sanitizing and disposing of data storage media. Through innovative design, we hold several patents for hard drive degaussers, tape degaussers and hard drive destruction equipment.

The Mechanical Engineer position is responsible for the design of mechanical and electromechanical subsystems and products. Through innovation, efficiency and principled design practices, this position works as a member of the engineering team to fulfill market driven needs.

Essential Functions:

Work with engineering team, vendors and internal customers to develop mechanical and electromechanical

products for industrial and commercial applications

Develop and design mechanical and electromechanical subsystems and products by studying customer

requirements and market driven needs

Conduct research on emerging technologies and identifying opportunities for applying such technologies to

achieve superior results

Conduct research and analyze data and specifications to evaluate the feasibility, design, operation,

performance, cost and requirements of new product designs

Prepare, review and revise documents related to product designs, revisions and production procedures

Assure product quality by developing inspection and test protocols

Maintain product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations

Design equipment and processes to an acceptable level of customer safety requirements and expectations -

mitigate product hazards and liability issues

Identify and follow work place safety requirements and procedures

Provide information and support to the Manufacturing team

Provide information and support to the Sales and Service teams

Other duties as assigned by the Director of Data Security, Inc.

Competencies:

Remain current with latest technical innovation and emerging technologies in the mechanical engineering

field by attending workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks or

participating in professional societies.

Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and cost/benefits analysis to maximize the

effective manufacture of products.

Basic electrical/electronic/magnetic knowledge

Experience in the following software: Microsoft Office applications, AutoCad and Inventor applications

Manufacturing Resources Planning Applications - item definition and BoM entry

Opportunity to apply machine control coding skills

Experience with mechanical system design and analysis involving motion and mechanisms, media handling,

sensor technologies, and automation

Basic skills with machine tool operation and assembly skills with hand tools

A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected

Outstanding written and oral communication skills

Must be a team player, self-motivated, dependable and dedicated

Ability to manage ones own time and the time of others

Ability to use critical thinking in solving problems

Ability to use active listening when communication with others

The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing

Effectively use computer hardware and software to plan work and manage projects

Work Environment:

This job operates primarily on a manufacturing floor.

Physical Demands:

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is

frequently required to walk or stand. The employee is occasionally required to bend, twist or reach as well as

lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision,

color vision preferred and the ability to adjust focus between multiple tasks.

Availability:

40 hours per week, must be available 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday. Must be willing to travel/work outside of

normal business hours.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Preferred Education and Experience:

Advanced Engineering Degree with 2 or more years experience in mechanical engineering
