OverviewThe Electricity Infrastructure and Buildings Division of PNNL is accelerating the transition to a decarbonized, efficient, resilient, and secure energy system through basic and applied research. We leverage a strong technical foundation in power and energy systems and in advanced data analytics to drive innovation, transform markets, and shape energy policy.The Electricity Infrastructure and Buildings Division of PNNL is advancing research to support the integration of inverter-based resources (IBRs) into modern power systems.The Optimization and Control Group within the EIBD is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to contribute to innovative research on modeling, stability analysis and control of hybrid IBR systems, including grid-forming (GFM) wind systems.ResponsibilitiesThe Postdoctoral Research Associate will work with PNNL staff on advanced stability analyses, controls and optimization of hybrid power systems integrating GFM and GFL inverters. The work will involve developing analytical models, analyzing system stability and developing controls and coordination methods to enhance the stability and reliability of IBR-dominant bulk power systems. The candidate is also expected to engage in dissemination of results through active participation in preparing technical reports and peer-reviewed publications.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD degree in electrical engineering or related field.

Solid background and experience in modeling and stability analysis of power systems.

Strong understanding of GFM and GFL inverter control strategies.

Proficiency in control and coordination methods for large scale systems

Familiarity with wind turbine modeling, control and integration into power system.

Experience in power system simulation tools like PSS®E, PSCAD, and Matlab Simulink.
