As a Utility Insulator, you will:
Perform inspections and assessments of existing insulation on mechanical systems to assist with work prioritization.
Inspect insulation, stencil, and label piping systems.
Insulate steam, plumbing, refrigeration, and air conditioning lines, ducts, and equipment using various insulating materials.
Cut, shape, glue, paste, or fasten insulation of appropriate lengths and sizes, mix and apply wet insulation material (mud) on elbows, valves, joints, and outdoor underground pipes, and apply tar and wrapping material to pipes.
Fabricate and install outside jacketing, including PVC and sheet metal.
Remove and dispose of insulation containing non-asbestos material before re-installation.
Record time and materials for insulation projects.
Perform cost estimates, material orders, and maintenance of records.
Prepare reports and inventory of equipment.
Clean, maintain, and properly store all tools and equipment.
Erect scaffolding, ladders, and walk-boards for insulation projects.
What you bring to the position (minimum qualifications):
High school or equivalent experience.
2+ years of work experience relative to industrial maintenance.
Strong understanding of the use and application of mechanical insulation systems.
Proficient in the operation of a variety of tools used in the trade.
Skilled in the ability to research, read, interpret, and work with project blueprints, schematics, floorplans, and specifications.
Ability to work as part of a team or independently dependent on job assignment.
Thoroughness and high attention to detail.
Must be available by phone to address work-related issues and willing to work outside of the normal scheduled shift, such as emergency situations, shift coverage, or other operational needs, either on short notice or with advance notice.
Must have a valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.
All levels will be assigned to a rotating on-call schedule and urgent situations occasionally require after-hours work.
