This position will perform Sales and Underwriting activities for the Livestock Transit office in the designated territory, including tasks required to produce and underwrite all Livestock lines of business. Upon completion of training as an Associate Underwriter, this position will have the opportunity for advancement into an Underwriter role or a role with greater claims responsibility, depending on experience and aptitude. This role will have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near our Omaha, NE office will have the expectation of working in that office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise. Remote work arrangement consideration will be provided to candidates who reside in IA, NE, or MN. Responsibilities:

Work directly with agents and livestock producers in the solicitation and writing of business

Grow business and profit in the territory.

Support clients in matters dealing with loss prevention, risk evaluation and coverage determination.

Maintain and further underwrite changes to existing business

Build and maintain relationships with key customers

Maintain broad knowledge of the insurance and livestock industries.

Adjust assigned claims, including communicating with claimants and policyholders to settle losses and making decisions regarding salvage and subrogation.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in an agricultural or financial/business discipline (work experience could substitute)

Knowledge of and/or experience in the livestock industry

Sales and Marketing skills

Ability to analyze complex documents, including coverage forms, applications and claims submissions

Collaborative approach to further understanding of the business and underwriting with mentors & senior staff

Ability to travel approximately 10%

CompensationThe listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
