The Mechanical Engineer II focuses on the design and engineering of HVAC and mechanical utilities for buildings. Typical tasks and deliverables include load calculations, utility assessments, energy modeling, design reports, code evaluations, plans, P&IDs, schedules, installation details, equipment and system selection and specification, and coordination with manufacturers and trade partners. Tasks will also include utilizing software for building information modeling, computer-aided drafting and engineering calculations. Project work will be under the direction of a more experienced engineer and may include all levels of design such as studies, conceptual and schematic design, design development, construction documentation and construction administration. This individual may also delegate basic and fundamental tasks to entry-level engineers and designers.   Core Responsibilities Interfaces with clients and external partners.  Develops design and construction drawing packages and edits construction specifications on basic projects of limited complexity with oversight.  Participates and contributes to squad checks and overall commitment to producing quality deliverables. Design mechanical systems (airside, chilled water, condenser water, heating hot water, steam, natural gas, compressed air, etc.) of basic complexity in conformance with code requirements and in coordination with other design disciplines  Performs envelope and load calculations, pressure drop calculations, and other engineering calculations of basic complexity as required to confirm project requirements are met.   Sizes mechanical equipment, ductwork and piping and develops system schematics Attends professional development activities. Provides mentorship to Mechanical Designer I.  Participates in basic project system design programming and master planning with support from Lead or Senior Engineer.  Supports construction activities such as RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch list development and construction progress reports.  Works closely with more experienced engineers and assists in the development of Mechanical deliverables.  Executes work on one or more intermediate level tasks simultaneously as delegated by the Lead or Sr. Mechanical Engineer.  The Individual will expand their knowledge and skill sets to include design and specification of more complex mechanical systems, including HVAC and mechanical utility systems and equipment.
