In-Home Personal Services Worker/ Personal Care Aide Job Description
Job Summary:
To assist our clients with personal care and other activities of daily living.
Duties and Responsibilities
Making sure the clients take their medication by offering reminders and very minimal assistance by loosening the lid or cap of the medication container.
Supporting and transferring clients who are not strong enough to move or walk on their own, including clients with a physical or cognitive disability, those recovering from illnesses and surgeries, and those taking medications that make them dizzy or weak.
Assisting clients with personal care, including bathing, dressing, toileting, hair and nail care, oral and denture care, and other tasks based on the individual needs of the client.
Cooking nutritious meals for the client and offering very minimal assistance with feeding.
Maintaining a clean environment for the client by handling light housekeeping tasks, including vacuuming, dusting, doing the dishes, cleaning kitchen surfaces, cleaning the bathroom (no deep cleaning), doing laundry including pressing/ironing, folding or hanging laundered items in the closet, etc., changing beddings/making the bed, keeping
the home free of clutter, spillages on the floor, and other safety hazards, and other light duties based on the individual needs of the client.
Shopping for groceries and other items, as per the service plan of the client, and running errands.
Observing, logging, and reporting changes in the client, reactions to medications, and other important incidents or accidents.
Documenting services provided in the client’s record.
Performing First Aid and acting responsibly during emergencies of any kind.
Providing non-medical transportation.
Providing companionship and emotional support.
Performing and handling other personal care tasks and responsibilities as directed by the
Supervisor or Administrator.
Qualifications:
Must be at least eighteen years of age
Must have good moral character
Shall not have been convicted of a crime under the laws of Nebraska or another jurisdiction, the penalty for which is imprisonment for a period of more than one year and which crime is rationally related to the person's fitness or capacity to act as an in-home personal services worker
Shall have no adverse findings on the Adult and Child Protective Services Central Registry, the central registry created in section 28-718, the Medication Aide Registry, the Nurse Aide Registry, or the central registry maintained by the sex offender registration and community notification division of the Nebraska State Patrol pursuant to section 29-4004
Shall be able to speak and understand the English language or the language of the person for whom he or she is providing in-home personal services
Shall have training sufficient to provide the requisite level of in-home personal services offered
Must demonstrate a deep understanding of agency policies and procedures
Physical Demands:
Standing and sitting for more than 20 minutes.
Pushing, pulling, lifting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, climbing, and stooping.
Touching, feeling, holding, and handling.
Talking and listening.
Walking and running.
Tasting and smelling.
Other Requirements
Must be of good health as demonstrated by the pre-employment health screening procedure.
Must possess strong ethics, be an excellent communicator, have people skills, and be able to speak, write, and understand English well.
