Summary This position is located in Lake Mead National Recreation Area in the Resource Stewardship and Interpretation Division and serves as the senior principal advisor in the management of natural resources responsible for natural resource program development and implementation. Programs may include vegetation, wildlife, aquatic resources, sensitive species, exotic species, air and water quality, fisheries, soils, geology, hydrology, paleontology, and range management. Responsibilities Major duties of this position include but are not limited to: Supervise and lead multi-disciplinary natural resource management staff. Oversee a complex natural resource management program and associated projects. Provide oversight, input, or interpretation of laws, rules, regulations, or policies related to natural resources. Collaborate with stakeholders, partners, and other agencies. Advise management on issues related to natural resource management. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 6 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Qualifications All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-11/01/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. To qualify for this position at the GS-0401 Biological series you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: 1. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR 2. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. To qualify for this position at the GS-1301 Physical Science series you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: 1. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR 2. Combination of education and experience education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. AND - To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Applied applicable policy, law, and regulations to implementing natural resource programs to manage vegetation, wildlife, and/or exotic species on local, state, federal, or private conservation lands; Designed field studies to collect data and information for development or implementation of management plans; Conducted field monitoring to assess conditions and trends of natural resources; Worked with local, state, and federal partners and/or with scientists and conservation organizations to coordinate efforts, implement management plans, and further natural resource management goals; Developed natural resource program goals, obtaining funding, and successfully carrying out resource management projects; Supervised subordinate personnel to carry out projects and implement program objectives to successfully accomplish natural resource management goals. You must include hours per week worked. Physical Demands: The position may require strenuous physical activity including periods of standing, walking, climbing, hiking, lifting, and carrying heavy objects. Some activities will occur in physically dangerous areas or settings. Documentary research and report writing work is sedentary, which entails the ability to concentrate and write for long periods of time while sitting at a computer. Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily indoors. Occasionally, work may be performed outdoors in all types of weather. Outdoor assignments may be performed in potentially hazardous areas including steep slopes, rocky terrain, caves, fire lines, desert environments, and forests. On occasion, flying in fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters is possible, and travel in and operation of motorboats may be routinely required. Travel by vehicle on paved and four-wheel drive dirt roads may also be routinely required. The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval. Documentation for the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility, you must submit ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA.
