SummaryThe VA Southern Nevada Health Care System (VASNHS) is located within North Las Vegas Nevada, VA Sierra Pacific Network VISN 21 and is part of the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) within the Department of Veterans Affairs. The VASNHS provides inpatient, primary and specialized ambulatory care services to veterans in the Las Vegas and surrounding counties and operates Primary Care Clinics (PCC)in the commuting area.ResponsibilitiesThe incumbent serves as the Working Lead, working along with and setting the pace for one of the Environmental Care Units (ECU) of the Environmental Management Services (EMS). The incumbent additionally trains the employees of his unit in the nonsupervisory work of the housekeeping occupation. He/she leads the work of Housekeeping Aids in a variety of tasks involving sweeping, dusting, vacuuming, mopping and waxing floors; cleaning surfaces, window interiors, bathroom fixtures, equipment and carpets; and sanitation of patient rooms, procedure rooms, operating rooms, waiting rooms and other clinical and public spaces located at the various facilities of the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS) and trains the Housekeeping aids on these tasks. The incumbent(s) lead three to fifteen housekeeping aids in grades WG-2 in one geographic location. The incumbent is responsible for demonstrating proper work methods; obtaining needed information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work; maintaining a current knowledge, and answering questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives; seeing to it that there is enough work to keep everyone in the work crew busy; checking work while in progress and when finished to see whether the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met; urging or advising other workers to follow instructions received from supervisors, and to meet deadlines; assuring that safety and housekeeping rules are followed (for example, assuring that limits of safe machine operation are not exceeded and that all tools are used properly); reporting to supervisors on status and progress of work, and causes of work delays; and answering questions of supervisors on overall work operations and problems (for example, concerning, additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees). He/she determines the amount of materials and equipment needed for assignments, and estimates the time required to do the job and assigns the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led. Maintains and stores stock of cleaning materials and equipment needed to do the work. Submits orders for supplies to remain appropriate par levels in housekeeping and storage closets. Identifies equipment in need of repair, removes faulty equipment from service, and reports to supervisor when equipment needs repair or replacement. Changes and decisions in work procedures and methods of work being performed are made by the incumbent, keeping the Supervisor informed. He/she leads the qualified workers for special tasks to be performed passing on to other workers the instructions received from supervisors and getting work started. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The Incumbent must be physically able to do continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing: Occasionally uses heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. Occasionally exerts moderately heavy physical effort such as would be required in lifting and moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds (e.g., moving, setting up and working from ladders. The duties require considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration. Visual acuity must be sufficient for the incumbent to see dirt, dust and debris.Working Conditions: Work is normally performed indoors with adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Some work is performed outdoors where incumbent is exposed to varying degrees of heat and cold as well as inclement weather. Some exposure to possible contagious diseases, blood and bloody secretion are inherent to this position.
