Domestic Violence Residential Advocate

Would you like to help victims of domestic violence and their children?!

We are seeking a full-time Residential Advocate to work in our emergency shelter located in Henderson, NV! (This will be approximately 40 hours per week.)

Primary Duties:

Answering the 24-hour crisis hotline

-Providing crisis intervention

-Providing referrals

-Safety planning with victims

-Completing documentation

Assisting victims of domestic violence with entering the emergency shelter

-Providing instructions on how to enter the shelter

-Creating a welcoming environment

-Completing intake documentation with the client

Monitoring shelter operations

-Maintaining building cleanliness and organization

-Reporting maintenance problems

-Ensuring safety for both staff and clients

Engaging clientele

-Providing ongoing crisis intervention and safety planning

-Being supportive and non-judgmental

-Assisting clients with various needs

-Providing conflict resolution and mediation services between clients

-May include assisting the shelter cook with food handling and meal preparation

Requirements

-Excellent communication and crisis management skills

-Supportive, calm, and caring demeanor

-Strong ethical and professional boundaries

-Ability to maintain strict confidentiality

-Eligibility to work in the United States

-Participate in thorough background checks, including state, federal, and Department of Child and Family Services

-High School Diploma/GED

-Some college education or related experience in social work or related field, including volunteer experience, a plus

-Knowledge of domestic violence and/or sexual assault preferred

-Obtain CPR/First Aid/AED and Food Handler certifications within the first month of employment

-Both on the job and virtual training will be provided

-Survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault encouraged to apply

-Applicants who are bilingual, especially in Spanish, highly encouraged to apply

Please note: Due to the 24/7 nature of the shelter, candidate's schedule must be extremely flexible and be able to work holidays, weekends, day, afternoon, and midnight shifts, as well as have non-concurrent or irregular off days.

Our emergency shelter is at an undisclosed location for the safety of our clients and staff. The map on this post shows the location of our public outreach office, not the shelter.
