Lead Welder and General Technician

JOB SUMMARY:

The Lead Welder and General Technician is responsible for safely and effectively leading a team while repairing, maintaining, fabricating, and installing commercial carports, stairs, welded fencing and gates, and other work as assigned and within required quality standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Completes all required monthly safety and skills training as assigned.

Assesses and mitigates potential fire/life/safety issues throughout work area(s) before work commencement.

Leads a team to work safely and promptly inform management about unsafe conditions.

Leads a team to maintain a safe, organized, and clean work area and returns tools to the designated storage areas, etc.

Leads a team to inspect and maintain all tools, including powered hand tools, welders, etc. for proper functionality and safe working conditions.

Leads a team to safely utilize all tools, including powered hand tools, welders, etc. as designed.

Leads a team to safely complete assigned work/work orders within required quality standards.

Leads a team to properly and effectively complete all paperwork and submit to leadership on time.

Leads a team to ensure clear and effective communication and a safe and effective working environment.

Leads a team to effectively utilize precision measuring and testing instruments while adhering to engineered drawings/specifications, dimensional requirements, manufacturer’s instructions, etc.

Leads a team to effectively interpret sketches, blueprints, and verbal instructions.

Leads a team to anticipate and request needed equipment, materials, and supplies as required to safely and effectively complete work in the allotted time.

Maintains an excellent attendance record according to Company policies.

Completes and sustains all required job certifications.

Leads a team to perform other tasks as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Education and/or Experience):

GED, High School Graduate, and supporting vocational training preferred.

5+ years’ experience in general mechanical, measuring, welding, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

5+ years’ experience in both general mechanical and welding.

Experience in reading and interpretating blueprints and engineered drawings.

Willingness to learn and expand skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods, climb flights of stairs, work from elevated areas, and wear face coverings (masks, respirators, etc.) as required by the job. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination suffi¬cient to operate hand tools and machinery. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 50+ pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; welding fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat and cold, wet, and humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is sometimes very loud. Work may be performed indoors and in varied outdoor weather conditions. Work may be performed on elevated surface. Subject to occasional after-hours or weekend call-ins for special events and/or emergencies.
