Tahoe Donner Association is looking for a skilled and reliable Fleet Vehicle Mechanic II to join our general maintenance operations! The Vehicle Mechanic II is responsible for performing preventative maintenance inspections for fleet vehicles and heavy equipment (loaders, excavators, woodchippers, blowers, backhoes), light mechanical (walk-behind snowblowers, generators) hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Vehicle Mechanic II can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of the Fleet Vehicle Mechanic III and continues to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques. In the winter, Vehicle Mechanic II will operate heavy equipment to remove snow from parking lots and roads maintained by the Tahoe Donner Association.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
-Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on light, medium, and heavy-duty gas and diesel fleet vehicles.
-Diagnose and perform minor adjustments and repairs on various types of fleet vehicles and heavy equipment, including, but not limited to, electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, differentials, etc.
-Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
-Perform routine inspections, fuel and clean vehicles and equipment, clean windshields, check and replace wiper blades, inspect tires, and repair or replace them as needed.
-Road test vehicles and equipment to diagnose issues, verify repairs, and ensure vehicle safety.
-Check brakes and install brake pads, rotors, brake shoes, and belts; inspect and install shock absorbers; repair or replace car locks, windows, window cranks, rear and side view mirrors, headlights, spotlights, taillights, and signal lights; replace fuses and connectors.
-Independently manage parts inventory and equipment provided on company-issued service trucks and perform periodic reconciliation.
-Maintain and operate company-issued service vehicles, conduct safety checks, and pre/post-trip inspections of vehicles.
-Manage concurrent assigned tasks, making effective judgments about prioritizing work-related activities and time allocations.
-Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
-Ability to safely operate equipment in winter weather conditions, including ice and snow-covered surfaces

We are looking for the following qualifications:
Requires possession of a valid Class C Driver License with a driving record meeting the minimum standards required by the Association insurance carrier.
Proven experience operating heavy equipment, such as skid steers, loaders, and/or snowplows (minimum 3 years)
Knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, and tools used in the mechanic trade.
Knowledge of safety regulations and precautions pertaining to bus, vehicle, and equipment servicing and maintenance.
Knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines and their operation characteristics.
Ability to identify and diagnose mechanical or problem areas quickly, isolate causes and take appropriate action to resolve problems/malfunctions identified.
Ability to meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform assigned duties
Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
These skills and abilities are typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma plus three (3) years of advance level experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair; or an equivalent combination of formal training, education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform all of the duties of the position.
