Are you passionate about bringing characters to life through costume design? Do you love working with children and supporting the magic of theater? We’re seeking a Lead Costumer to join our vibrant children’s theater company!
Position: Lead Costumer
Location: Carson City, NV
Hours: Part-time, (2 shows per year), with flexible hours leading up to performances (including occasional evenings/weekends during performances)
Compensation: Per Show Stipend to be discussed, along with plenty of warm, fuzzy feelings from making theater magic happen!
Responsibilities:
Create Costumes from designing and building, pulling from our extensive costume warehouse, and/or from “reimaging” and modifying costumes from thrift store shopping.
Collaborate with Team: Work closely with the director, set designer, and other creative team members to maintain consistency in themes and styles.
Budget Management: Plan and track costume expenses to stay within budget, sourcing materials creatively and cost-effectively.
Fittings and Adjustments: Conduct fittings with young performers, making alterations as necessary to ensure a comfortable and professional fit.
Maintenance and Organization: Manage costume inventory, ensuring proper care, storage, and organization for future productions.
Leadership: Supervise costume assistants, volunteers, or interns, offering guidance and delegating tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
Experience in costume design and construction, preferably for theater.
Strong sewing and tailoring skills (machine and hand-sewing).
Creativity and a flair for designing costumes that captivate young audiences.
Patience, enthusiasm, and the ability to work well with children and diverse personalities.
Excellent time management and organizational skills to meet production deadlines.
Ability to train and inspire volunteers in basic costume tasks.
