This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program. The person in this position will represent International SOS and provide services outlined below:International SOS is looking for an individual who is experienced as a phlebotomist to collect blood, instruct patients and prepare samples for testing.Key Responsibilities:Perform blood collection requiring knowledge of clinical science to understand the multiplicity of tests and specimen requirements, the mechanics of venipuncture and patient preparation.Positively identifies patients prior to sample collection and samples prior to testing or aliquoting.Perform phlebotomy to obtain patient specimens for laboratory testing including blood cultures and compatibility samples.Collect specimen in multiple areas including inpatients, outpatients, and emergency room.Draw labs appropriately based on urgency categorizations (STAT, ASAP, Timed, Routine).Accession and receive samples into VA laboratory information system package for in house testing or send outs to reference laboratories.Transport specimens to the laboratory including those requiring special handlings.Safeguards electronic and paper patient information.Answer the phone and direct calls to other laboratory sections.Establish and maintain effective interpersonal skills and good customer relations with patients, families, and all other medical center employees.Provide general clerical and administrative support for the area.Stock and maintain specialized supplies used in the drawing area.
