Neal and Stefanie are both autistic adults. They are independent in most ways. I am a widower and my wife and I ran a family directed services program through the Moore Center for years until she passed away fairly recently. At present I need to shop, to doctor's appointments and do other things during the week and there are tmes when one of my kids has appointments also. The position does not require anything other than supervision of both or one of them while I'm out. They have had respite workers for years and are used to this. Mostly respite workers simply came Here to be with them and watched TV while I was out. If you can tolerate some oddness in their habits it is an easy job. I have some respite care now but since I am 75, need a bit more. It pays $30.00 per hour and I need six hours a week - Monday. Wednesday or Friday in some combination - say four hours on Wednesday, two hours on Monday.
Usually the schedule would be the same each week but there are occasions when it might change a bit. For example I am a musician and play concerts during the day at the VA and rehab centers ( a few times a year) and doctor's appointments don't always coincide with the respite schedule so the position would require some flexibility in scheduling. I know this can be inconvenient for respite workers so when there is an unusual schedule (for example instead of coming from 11 - 1 on Monday. it would be 10-12 or 12-2) I pay extra for the respite. For instance if you had to come at an unusual time instead of getting $60.00 for two hours you would get $100.00 for two hours.
The Moore Center requires a criminal background check for respite staff so there are a few forms to fill out. I would pay you on the same day of service by check so there is no waiting period. If you are interested contact me and we can set up a time fort you to come here and meet Neal and Stef.
