Join the Fat Dog Team! Fat Dog Shellfish is an oyster farm located in Great Bay, New Hampshire. Founded in 2011, Fat Dog cultivates a line of premium oysters that is sold to raw bars and seafood retailers throughout the Northeast and the country. Fat Dog is seeking two Farm Techs to assist with all aspects of our field operations during the summer growing season. This is a great summer work opportunity for college students or recent graduates.
Duties
Farm Techs will work during the busy summer growing season, which runs from May through September, with a possibility of extension into the fall. Farm Techs will assist in all aspects of our on-water activities. This includes assistance with growing seed oysters in dockside upwellers, deploying seed oysters to the farm, tumbling and grading, culling market oysters for sale, and deploying oysters to restoration siyes. All work performed by the Farm Techs is outdoors and on water.
By the end of the growing season, all Farm Techs will have hands on experience with the diverse range of aquaculture techniques we employ. This is a great way to gain valuable experience in the world of shellfish farming!
Qualifications
Farm Tech positions are entry level. No prior aquaculture experience is necessary. An acute interest in aquaculture and desire to learn are a must. Applicants must be in excellent physical condition and able to work long hours in harsh weather. Techs must be comfortable working on boats and in and on the water. This is hard, muddy work!
Work Schedule
This is a full time/seasonal position that will run from May through September. The Farm Techs will work 5-6 days/week. Weekend work is a must.
Compensation
$16-$18/hr. plus performance based bonus at end the end of the season.
