The primary tasks, duties, and responsibilities that generally define the painter job description are listed below:

- Responsible for painting the exterior and interior areas

- Execute pre-painting activities, including cleaning, scraping, sanding, patching, caulking, and masking of adjacent

surfaces prior to painting, papering, texturing, etc. if required

- Preparing surfaces to be painted by washing them, filling holes and cracks with putty and sanding them until they’re

smooth

- Ensure appropriate finishes and applications

- Carry out after project cleaning of areas, supplies, and equipment at the completion of project

- Assembling scaffolding as required

- Covering trim, floors, furniture and other surfaces with masking tape, drop cloths and other protective coverings to keep

them free of paint

- Applying primer and other sealers to paint surfaces to ensure that paint sticks to them

- Mixing and matching paint, stain and other finishes to job specifications

- Applying paint, stain and other finishes to paint surfaces using paintbrushes, rollers or sprayers

- Cleaning machines, equipment and work areas using water, solvents and other cleaning aids

- Removing and reinstalling fixtures (eg, doorknobs, electric switch covers) as necessary
