Job DescriptionGeneral PurposeBased out of our Newark, NJ LocationProvide relief/backup support for company when drivers are on vacation or other time off. May provide on-call relief, cover partial trips, or fill in due to staffing needs. Demonstrate knowledge of multiple delivery routes and possess necessary qualifications and experience to drive class A vehicles per the relief driving assignment. Keep up-to-date knowledge of routes, which may include going on route ride(s) to keep active knowledge. Operate a straight truck, tractor-trailer, or double trailer. Deliver products or assets in a safe and timely manner to customers, warehouses, distributors, etc., according to the delivery route schedule as determined by the supervisor. Demonstrate high standards of customer service. Communicate frequently with peers, supervisors, and others.Job Duties and Responsibilities

Operate a commercial motor vehicle in compliance with DOT and DFA rules, regulations and policies adhering to all safety practices.

Deliver products or assets according to route schedule and customer delivery expectations (e.g., put deliveries inside coolers and walk-ins) in a safe and timely manner. Follow designated routes and schedules unless otherwise directed by supervisory personnel.

Report delivery delays to management due to road conditions, accidents, or breakdowns.

Based on route design, load and unload product as required at designated stops (2-wheel cart and/or pallet jacket); may include stocking and ordering of product (varies from route to route)

Communicate effectively and maintain good relations with customers and report any problems to the driver supervisor or manager.

Ensure and/or perform proper maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment used (tires, fuel, oil check, etc.) and maintain a clean vehicle.

Complete all daily paperwork fully and correctly each day. Maintain all log and trip records according to company policy and DOT guidelines.

Perform load inventory and document condition of freight before departure.

Attend all driver workshops and training sessions.

Use company supported applications or systems properly.

Always represent DFA positively and professionally during interactions with customers or other individuals.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent

2 or more years of experience driving a tractor trailer, straight truck, or doubles trailer, within the last 5 years preferred.

Must meet minimum age requirements.

Must meet DFA requirements for Motor Vehicle Records

Must meet all DOT requirements.

Certification and/or License – valid Class A CDL; some drivers may be required to have a doubles endorsement; license or operator’s permit for at least the three years immediately prior to application.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of DOT procedures, rules, and requirements

Knowledge in Samsara, routing, and DMS

Skill in proficient computer usage

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

Skills with math for calculating load size and recording accurate volume/weight measurements.

Able to contribute to the positive performance behaviors through personal example.

1-year related experience preferred

Valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) with a clean driving record

21+ years of age

Must be able to pass all pre-employment screens (including drug, background, and criminal checks)

Ability to read, write and communicate in English.

Ability to push, pull, & lift to 55 lbs.

Flexibility – overtime as required, occasional weekends and holidays.
