Apex Systems has an immediate direct hire opportunity for an Environmental Engineer
The incumbent is responsible for managing the Air Quality Compliance (Title V) program, providing support to the Environmental Manager with other environmental regulations and programs. In addition, the incumbent will manage environmental projects, provide support to SH&E with the Process Safety Management Program and perform supplemental tasks as requested by the Environmental Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Develops and implements compliance strategies that meet State and Federal Air Quality Regulations
Attains and maintains compliance with these regulations for all air contaminant emission sources
Evaluates the quantity and type of air contaminant emissions produced from source operations and equipment
Reviews existing and proposed air quality regulations in order to determine and implement site compliance strategies (i.e. The "Compliance Plan")
Prepares all necessary regulatory submittals. These include permit applications for new or modified source equipment, periodic reports associated with compliance requirements and response to regulatory agency inquiries.
Assists Operations and R&D in determining proper air pollution control strategies
Manages the Air Pollution Control Equipment (thermal oxidizer & carbon beds) and manages upgrades
Establishes conditions under which the control equipment will operate such as: flow rates, temperature, concentrations of specific contaminants and corrosive characteristics
Creates or updates air pollution equipment SOP's as needed
Performs air dispersion modeling and calculates new product health risk assessments
Maintains offsite consequence analysis models for the site
Provides Utilities engineering support to ensure efficient operation of the boilers, cooling towers, USP water, nitrogen, electricity, compressed air, fuel oil & natural gas systems
Leads deviation investigations and completes reports for abnormal utility systems operations
Manages assigned projects to support Project Engineering group as needed. Tasks include performing equipment research, obtaining field measurements, sizing of new equipment, acquiring bids, managing the project's installation (contractors), supervising the start-up and writing of SOP's for new equipment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering and/or Mechanical Engineering and 0-2 years of experience as an environmental/project engineer in a chemical or pharmaceutical manufacturing plant.
