Part-Time Prep Cook
Hours: 1–3 days/week, 10-20hrs/week (flexible daytime schedule)
Compensation: $18/hour
Location: Capital Roots Kitchen, Troy, NY, a shared commercial kitchen that supports regional food entrepreneurs.

Simply Soupreme is a 100% plant-based, small-batch soup company based in Red Hook, NY, founded by Jason Murphy. We make wholesome soups that are soy-free, gluten-free, and made without additives or preservatives—celebrating the best of the Hudson Valley’s seasonal produce. Responsibilities include:
Ingredient prep and cooking batching soups according to recipes
Hot-fill/pack and labeling
Kitchen sanitation and closing procedures
Basic inventory and organization
Ideal Candidate
Culinary or professional kitchen experience preferred, but we’re also open to motivated learners eager to grow
Reliable, organized, and detail-oriented
Interest in plant-based cooking, sustainability, and small-scale production
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods
Food safety certification (ServSafe or equivalent) is a plus

About the Founder
Jason is a chef and food entrepreneur with deep experience in both the restaurant and wholesale food industries. He was the owner of the award-winning Russell Street Deli in Detroit for over a decade, where he developed a beloved community restaurant and launched a large-scale wholesale soup business supplying more than 200 stores across Michigan. After relocating to New York, Jason founded Simply Soupreme to continue his commitment to healthful, locally sourced, plant-based cooking—bridging his expertise in culinary craft with a mission to make nourishing food accessible and sustainable. He has also collaborated with community organizations including Project Eats, NY, Restaurant Opportunities Center, One Love Community Fridge, A Little Piece of Light, and Keep Growing Detroit.
