Adelphi Paper Hangings, in Sharon Springs, New York, is a producer of historic reproduction block printed wallpapers. We currently have a full time production printer position open.
As our production method involves the use of pre-industrial (manual) equipment physical agility, dexterity and strength are required. Block printing is a repetitive process; consequently an applicant must be able to maintain concentration while paying close attention to details. Experience with block printing or other printing methods is not required.
Other duties include:
-Applying background color onto rolls of blank paper – also known as “grounding”
-Learning how to formulate paint bases and mix colors.
-Learning the basics of printing block repair
-Maintaining an orderly and clean work area.
Adelphi Paper Hangings is a relatively small workshop. Trainees must be able to work closely with other printers as well as accept suggestions and advice.
An art school degree in studio arts is highly recommended. A genuine interest in 18th and 19th century material is culture always welcome.
Computer graphics skills are not required but a familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Wordpress would be advantageous.
