Position Summary: The dispensing of medications, pharmaceutical supplies, and other health care related items in accordance with the standard policies and procedures of the department. There will be considerable interaction with providers regarding therapeutic choices, drug dosage appropriateness, and compatibility of medications in multi‐drug modalities. This position will require involvement in patient education and medication reconciliation activities.Education, License & Cert: Graduation from an accredited School of Pharmacy with a B.S. or Pharm D Degree and licensed as a Pharmacist in the state of practice.Experience: Recent experience in a high‐volume, patient‐care oriented retail/outpatient pharmacy environment is essential. Familiarity with current pharmacy software and automated dispensing equipment is preferred. Comprehensive knowledge of pharmaceutical science, drug therapy, pharmacology, and dosing are necessary. Experience with patient counseling, prospective drug review, pharmacy benefit plans, and research article interpretation is helpful.Essential Functions: 1) Accurately prepare and dispense medications and other products based on orders received from providers in a manner that complies with all laws and regulations and in accordance to the policies and procedures of the department.2) Contacts and confers with providers concerning any questions or irregularities with any prescription, potential drug‐drug interactions, or patient drug utilization.3) Orders and maintains inventory and records of all medications and products, including controlled substances, as required by United States and Pennsylvania laws.4) Consults with providers, nursing staff, and others concerning the availability, dosage forms, indications, side effects and possible incompatibilities of medications.5) Dispense non‐prescription medication to public, counsel patients and answer patients’ questions regarding medications.6) Organizes daily operational duties and directs supportive personnel, including technicians, in the dispensing functions as well as other routine pharmacy services.7) Routinely orders pharmacy inventory items, checks and adjusts proper inventory levels, rotates stock, ensures compliance with drug recalls, removes outdated or excess drug supplies.8) May be assigned to perform additional tasks. including, but not limited to, drug usage evaluation, medication reconciliation, quality assurance/control, file maintenance, drug information, report compilation, and readmission reduction activitiesOther Duties: It is understood that this description is not intended to be all‐inclusive and that other duties may be assigned as necessary in the performance of this position.Joining the Guthrie team allows you to become a part of a tradition of excellence in health care.
