RV repair technicians are responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing recreational vehicles (RVs), motorhomes, campers, pop-up campers, and trailers. Their duties may include:

1. Inspections: Conducting thorough inspections of RVs to identify any issues or potential problems. This includes examining mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural components. Ability to perform New York State Inspections.

2. Diagnosis: Using diagnostic tools and techniques to pinpoint the root cause of any malfunctions or performance issues in RV systems. Along with the ability to Diagnose owner concerns and/or any defects that would cause vehicle to not pass New York State Inspection.

3. Repair and Maintenance: Performing repairs and maintenance tasks on various RV components, such as:

Mechanical systems: Engines, transmissions, brakes, brake systems, suspension, steering, hydraulic and mechanical legs, pop up camper mechanical cabling systems, and exhaust systems.

Electrical systems: Batteries, wiring, frayed wiring, broken connections, lighting, generators, inverters, and appliances. Connect electrical systems to external power sources and test appliances and light fixtures.

Plumbing systems: Water pumps, pipes, tanks, faucets, toilets, and showers.

HVAC systems: Air conditioning, heating, and ventilation systems.

Structural components: Roofs, ability to identify roof leaks, siding, windows, doors, chassis, tires, slide outs, and awnings.

Perform: winterization/de-winterization.

Reset hardware: ability to use chisels, mallets, and screwdrivers.

Propane Systems: ability to diagnose and fix propane gas lines and components.

Patience: Must have patience when working on RV’s, motorhomes, campers, travel trailers, and pop-up campers.

4. Parts Replacement: Removing and replacing faulty or worn-out parts with new ones, ensuring compatibility and proper installation.

5. Propane System Maintenance: Ability to diagnose and fix propane gas lines along with inspecting, repairing, and maintaining propane systems used for cooking, heating, and refrigeration in RVs.

6. Customer Service: Communicating with service writers to understand RV owner’s concerns, explaining repair options, to help ensure customer satisfaction.

7. Documentation: Maintaining accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts used, and services performed for each RV.

8. Safety Compliance: Ensuring that all repairs and modifications meet safety standards and comply with relevant regulations, such as those related to electrical, plumbing, propane, and vehicle safety.

9. Continuing Education: Staying updated on new RV technologies, repair techniques, and industry trends through training programs, workshops, and professional development opportunities.

10. Shop Maintenance: Keeping the repair shop clean, organized, and stocked with necessary tools, equipment, and supplies.
