This is a hybrid position with a flexible work schedule for up to a two year appointment.This position is designated as Management Confidential and serves at the pleasure of the President. Under the supervision of the Associate Vice President ( AVP ) for Human Resources & President’s Designee as well as the Associate Provost for Finance and Administration, the Employee Relations Specialist will support the division of Academic Affairs in collaboration with leaders from the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs ( PVPAA ) Office. Independent judgment will be required as this position will support a breadth of human resources areas. The Specialist will engage in team member training and mentoring, working with department chairs and managers on supervisory and employee relation related topics and ongoing adherence with SUNY guidelines as well as state, federal, and other relevant laws and regulations.This position will independently handle/advise on employee and labor relations matters as assigned by AVP for HR and the PVPAA . Provide support and guidance to supervisors and staff on a range of matters including application of collective bargaining agreements, informal and formal coaching and counseling, workplace investigations, union grievances, and administration of the disciplinary process, where applicable, within the division of Academic Affairs. Completes research projects as they relate to employee and labor relations issues and compiles reports for managerial information purposes.Provides human resources support to the division and ensures employee and labor relations matters are resolved in a fair, consistent, and collaborative manner. In collaboration with Human Resources and the PVPAA’s Office, ensures legal compliance updates in accordance with regulations, collective bargaining agreements, and College policies, are applied timely to HR-related matters and processes within the division. As time allows, works with the Academic Affairs leadership to advance proactive training, and further document divisional HR related processes and procedures.Required Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree
At least five (5) years of full-time equivalent work experience in labor and employee relations or human resources functions.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience working in the public sector, in a unionized environment, preferably in higher education
