Maitri Farm seeks to fill the Flower Farm Production Manager position for our 2025 growing season and beyond. Maitri Farm, established in 2014, aims to steward the land and create a biodiverse ecosystem through regenerative agriculture. Located on 106 acres in Amenia, NY, the farm is certified organic and has 4 acres dedicated to cut flowers. It offers local CSA options, operates an on-farm stand, and seeks an individual passionate about innovative agricultural production to maintain client relationships and explore new opportunities.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The flower enterprise currently has established plantings that provide an excellent opportunity for a new flower farmer to transition into a long-term position and improve their skills. The flower program was initiated in 2018 and has expanded to over 2 acres of production. There are permanent, perennial fields with 1000 feet of peonies and a ΒΌ acre of perennial plantings, including echinacea, sedum, geum, and baptisia. For the 2025 season, 11,500 tulips have been planted in crates for forcing, ranunculus have been planted in a tunnel, and spring annuals have been prepped for early spring blooms in another area. This position offers an ideal opportunity for a qualified candidate to join and contribute to the growth of the existing business by leading the management of flower production.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to)
Daily early morning harvest up to 6 days a week in spring
Organize bouquet-making processes for efficiency and quality.
Managing cultivated acreage
Developing and executing a comprehensive crop plan
Overseeing production from seed orders to harvesting with the best ecological practices
Harvesting, processing, and storing products properly
Collaborating with and supporting additional farm enterprises
Maintaining and managing farm infrastructure and equipment
Business management and development
Budgeting and financial recordkeeping
Managing emails and assisting in social media
Collaborating with farm owner and manager to plan and implement short- and long-term goals
Overseeing weeding, trellising, pest and disease management, irrigation, and fertilization
Creating best practices and systems for the farm
Executing the timely production of crops
Staffing: Managing and developing staff to support field-growing operations
Developing a weekly harvest schedule and tracking progress against production goals
General farm work and participation in projects as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum three years of flower farming experience
Familiarity with sustainable management practices
Ability to maintain a healthy, positive & supportive workplace environment
Experience operating tractors & agricultural equipment safely
Ability to communicate with the farm owner, collaborate with employees, and manage outside contractors
Strong organizational skills & attention to details
This is a physically demanding position, and candidates must be able to repeatedly lift 50 lbs. and be able to work outside in all weather conditions
Valid driver's license
COMPENSATION
$55,000 - $65,000 D.O.E
Veggies and Flowers available to take home each week after harvest is completed
Paid holidays, PTO, and benefits after 30 days
SCHEDULE
The Flower Production Manager is expected to work 40 hours per week. However, there will be times of the year when 50-hour work weeks are required and other times when 30-hour work weeks are needed. The farm manager is also expected to work a few hours on Saturdays or Sundays when necessary to harvest certain specialty crops, such as peonies and tulips, at the proper stage.
