This position works with the Executive Chef to prepare delicious and nutritious vegetarian/vegan meals for the Dharmakaya Center for Wellbeing. It is a part-time, flexible role that involves both cooking independently for small groups of retreat guests and working as a prep-chef/sous chef for the Executive Chef to feed large groups of up to 50 people.

Job Responsibilities:

Prepare and present three or more delicious and nutritious vegetarian meals per day, ensuring consistency in quality regardless of the size of the group.

Work with the Executive Chef on the development, planning, and implementation of menus and kitchen operations.

Work with the other Center staff to regulate schedules and processes to ensure flow.

Work with the Executive Chef to ensure that all kitchen supplies are ordered, stocked, and properly stored. This includes all food items, dishes and utensils, cleaning products, cooking supplies, and any other item necessary.

Maintain a safe, clean, and organized kitchen that conforms to health department codes.

Report and track kitchen expenses.

Lead kitchen volunteers.

Refill food stations and interacting with guests once they are served.

Assist in cleaning up after meals and closing the kitchen for the day.

May be required to work weekends and evenings as DCW needs dictate.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience cooking vegetarian cuisine in a semi-professionally or professionally environment or related experience.

Enthusiastic, resilient and thoughtful demeanor required.

A demonstrated ability to multi-task and an affinity for working in an ever-changing environment.

Respect for and ability to maintain an environment of peacefulness and wellbeing while getting jobs accomplished.

Proven capacity to work independently and as part of a team.

Exceptional organizational and project planning skills.

Perfectionist when it comes to details associated with meal planning and execution.

Accurate sense of taste and smell - understanding proper seasoning and what tastes good.

A high aptitude in identifying barriers and troubleshooting with few concrete variables.

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, and squat.

Ability to lift 1-25 pounds

Valid drivers license required.

Work Environment: Kitchen and campus type setting
