Woodstock Farm Sanctuary is expanding our Caregiving Team and seeking a Full-Time Junior Animal Caregiver.
You may start as an Assistant Caregiver, Junior Caregiver, Full Caregiver or Senior caregiver depending on experience.
Animal Caregivers are responsible for the feeding, watering, administration of medications, and monitoring the physical and emotional well-being of 300+ farmed animals. You will be part of a team that performs health checks and health maintenance, maintains health records, supervises interns and volunteers, occasionally cleans buildings and unloads hay and straw, and may interact with the public on tour days and at special events.
This is a non-exempt, full-time, year-round, benefits-eligible, on-site position reporting to the Shelter Director.
No lodging is available on site.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Feeds, waters and opens all coops and barns
Prepares and administers AM & PM medications to all residents (orally and intramuscular and subcutaneous injections).
Provides medical treatments to all residents (wound cleaning, bandaging, hoof trimming…)
Opens and closes all coops and barns according to weather related needs
Participates in health checks
Displays a basic understanding of medications
Demonstrates ability to identify common health issues
Responsible for properly maintaining clean housing, water and bedding
Trains and works with interns
Participates in proper record keeping
Documents and shares animal observations with colleagues and managers
Required Skills:
Ability to adapt to constantly changing situations, such as emergency transport/vet visits/injured animals/direct rescues
Must be physically (and mentally) able to do all tasks in any weather: almost all work is done in outdoor setting that is not climate controlled
Must be able to carry up to 50lbs and often heavier loads
Mut be reliable and dependable
Must have a keen sense of observation
Ability to work well with a variety of people
Ability to be a good team player
Familiarity and commitment to the practice of equity and social justice
Demonstrates ability to follow detailed instructions
Ability to perform proper animal handling techniques
Required Credentials and Experience:
Previous experience in direct animal care required, preferably including farmed animals
Commitment to the mission of the organization
Clean driver’s license

Scheduling includes weekends and evening hours. 2 consecutive days off.
