The YMCA of Ithaca is looking for energetic, creative, and dynamic camp counselors and specialists that enjoy leading children ages 5-12 in a day camp setting. Counselors will interact with children and in the areas of sports and games, arts and crafts, outdoor education, swimming, and music, and establish meaningful relationships with campers, parents/guardians, and staff.
Staff must be fun-loving, at a minimum of age 18 with a high school diploma, and have had some experience in organizing, implementing and leading camp recreation programs and/or classes for youth ages 5-12.
Primary Duties:
Have fun with children while changing the lives of children in a positive way. Y Camp includes social responsibility along with youth development and healthy living protocols, and features sports and games, outdoor education, music, arts & crafts, swimming, reading, trips to the Y outdoor education land once a week, trips to area parks once a week, special guests, and theme weeks. In addition, highly qualified staff work together as a team for positive reinforcement with children as mentors, and personal and positive interactions with children and parents alike. Safety and security is highly observed in the Camp Adventure program.
Candidates should be equipped to handle discipline in a positive manner, as well as keeping records and being able to start a game or conversation on an impromptu basis, developing enriching activities for the youth ages 5-12. Counselors should be experienced for at least 1 year working in a camp or youth educational setting, and be at least 18 years of age.
