United Way for Cortland County
Description: United Way for Cortland County seeks a dynamic Executive Director who will work with a dedicated Board of Directors, staff and volunteers to develop, communicate and achieve its mission of connecting people and resources to improve our communities. This position requires a willingness to be proactive in forming innovative, collaborative efforts to achieve goals. Essential duties and responsibilities include leadership, strategic planning, fundraising, management, resource development, marketing/communications and finance.
The successful candidate will: maximize support through fundraising opportunities and community events, run annual campaigns, work with partner agencies to ensure the integrity of funded programs, serve as the public face of the organization in the community, cultivate and maintain relationships within the community to garner support and to implement needed services, and work with the United Way Board of Directors and volunteers to ensure agency objectives and goals are met.
Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree, preferred Master’s Degree in Public Administration or related field
Experience Required:
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a leadership and/or management role, preferred experience in non‐profit, social or human services environment
Demonstrated success in fundraising, including experience securing individual, corporate, and/or private foundation support, preferred experience in planned giving, annual gifts and major gifts
Proven success in writing and securing grant funding
Experience engaging and inspiring volunteers
Working knowledge of the Nonprofit Revitalization Act and board governance
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with groups of people and organizations in communities
Financial literacy including formation of budgets
Sound judgment and decision making skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills including excellent public speaking skills
Skilled in managing and using computer software programs and social media
Ability to prioritize and multitask
Manages relations with corporate and individual donors to ensure future funding
Preferred: Lives in, or willing to live in, Cortland County
Preferred: Previous experience working with United Way as a volunteer, board member or staff person
Salary: $60,000 - 75,000
