Discover Cayuga Lake, Inc. provides public eco-cruises and "Floating Classroom" educational programs on Cayuga Lake for Finger Lakes residents and visitors. Our programs emphasize human and natural history in a casual and engaging atmosphere on board our 63 foot, twin-screw commercial vessel, MV Teal.
DCL is seeking an outgoing individual who will support our non-profit mission and holds an active 50/100-ton Master Captain certification. As a seasonal (May-October) captain, this individual would work under the supervision of DCL’s Master Captain. When on duty, DCL captains supervise a crew of 2-3 deckhands and work with additional interpretive staff who may be onboard. Effective working relationships are of utmost importance.
The Seasonal Captain position encompasses several areas of responsibility:
Ensuring the safe operation of the vessel, and adherence to all applicable regulations
Day to day completion of equipment and engine maintenance checklists
Understanding of daily programming requirements and support of interpretive staff
Requirements:
Must be able to produce a current 50/100 ton master certification.
Must be available weekends. (At least one day.)
Must adhere to drug-free certification and random testing, as required by the US Coast Guard.
