Position Overview:
The Steward is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and organization within the kitchen and food preparation areas. The role includes cleaning dishes, utensils, kitchen equipment, and ensuring that the kitchen environment complies with health and safety standards. The Steward works closely with the culinary team to support the smooth operation of the kitchen and ensures all equipment is available for use when needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Cleaning and Sanitation:
o Coordination and scheduling dishwashers
o Wash, sanitize, and store all dishes, utensils, kitchen equipment, and cookware in accordance with health and safety standards.
o Clean kitchen floors, surfaces, and workstations, ensuring the kitchen remains tidy and organized throughout the shift.
o Maintain cleanliness of dishwashing equipment and report any malfunctioning equipment to the Kitchen Manager or Executive Chef.
Waste Management:
o Remove garbage and recyclables from the kitchen and dispose of them in designated areas.
o Ensure waste bins are properly lined and maintained throughout the shift.
Inventory and Stocking:
o Ensure all cleaning supplies and chemicals are stocked and report low inventory levels to the Kitchen Manager.
o Assist in organizing kitchen supplies and ensuring they are stored properly.
Health and Safety Compliance:
o Follow all safety and sanitation procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
o Ensure compliance with local health codes, including correct storage, handling, and sanitation practices.
Support to Kitchen Staff:
o Assist chefs and kitchen staff as needed, such as setting up workstations or handling minor prep work.
o Respond promptly to the needs of the kitchen and event staff to ensure smooth operations during events.
Equipment Maintenance:
o Ensure that all kitchen equipment, such as ovens, fryers, and stoves, are clean and functioning properly.
o Perform basic maintenance of dishwashing equipment, ensuring filters and drains are cleared and cleaned regularly.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in a kitchen environment is preferred but not required.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle physical tasks such as lifting and carrying.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
Understanding of basic food safety and sanitation guidelines.
Flexibility to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
