Duties Description Under the direction of the Fire Protection Specialist 2 in the Office of Fire Prevention and Control Operational Support Branch the incumbent will oversee the activities and staff of the assigned administrative training district. Duties include, but not limited to: Develop course curriculum for assigned technical specialties (e.g., hazardous materials, weapons of mass destruction, vehicle extrication, firefighting, and technical rescue.) Review and audit teaching assignments of SFIs. Evaluate instructors on presentation methods, technique, and technical content and provide guidance and suggestions for improvement. Recommend and develop new training programs (in conjunction with SFIs) Prepare lesson plans and create a variety of educational materials and teaching aids. Evaluate technical training programs and recommend improvements. Provide on-site technical assistance and support to local emergency responders and government officials. Provide technical assistance to support development of emergency response plans and exercises in conjunction with local and state agency partners. Prepare technical reports and other documents. May act as the official State representative to coordinate State provided emergency services in the event of a regional or Statewide incident. Assist with the delivery of courses when needed, including administering written and practical skills testing. Assist with regional instructor authorizations to conduct State Fire training. Assist with the communications and meetings with local fire chiefs and fire coordinators and other fire officials as needed. Perform other duties and special projects as required.NOTE: Travel may be required (approximately 60%), including during evening and weekends, depending on assignment.Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver’s License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required, or otherwise demonstrate the capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job. NOTE: Support of operations during times of emergency and disaster from State Emergency Operations Center (EOC), state field offices and/or local deployments may be required, which would result in a change and/or increase in working hours, locations and/or duties.
