Solve Resource and Energy Associates (www.solverea.com) provides energy project finance services to investors and growing businesses. Services include financial product development, modeling, business model creation, deal marketing strategy, investment due diligence, credit review, deal acquistions support, investment monitoring, and executive oversight. We are a small but growing outfit that works with some of the most exciting new cleantech companies, and leading renewable energy investors in the Northeast. We help make the right deals happen.
We are looking for staff at all levels who can flexibly assist us as we take on new projects. An aptitude for MS excel, good communication skills, a drive to get things done, and a good command of the English language in a business context are strong indicators of success in this role.
For the Analyst role, we will train the right candidate.
For the Associate and Manager roles, senior candidates are encouraged to apply. We have a backlog of opportunities which need to be managed or closed, with considerable upside above the hourly rate.
Position is remote, though periodic meetings with our principals will be required, which may take place primarily in North Brooklyn, DUMBO, or Lower Manhattan.
The ideal candidate will be someone with strong experience in and love of the renewable energy / clean tech industry.
Analyst level:
We will be more flexible, with a college degree in business, an analytical discipline (e.g. statistics, geography, economics, etc.) or a technical discipline (engineering, applied science, etc.) will give good preparation for the role. In this case, if you don't have a business background, it will be critical for you to be able to understand key business concepts like profit and loss, tax depreciation, and the time value of money. Initial work for you as a new hire will likely focus on building financial models, writing financing summaries, or researching cleantech finance/tax/policy issues.
Required:
- A strong interest in financing, financial models, and doing deals.
- An interest in learning about different renewable energy technologies and cleantech business models.
- Ability to use MS Excel, with a strong aptitude for progressing your skills.
- Ability to use MS Powerpoint, with a strong aptitude for progressing your skills.
- Ability to read and write in top quality business english.
- Bachelors degree
Associate/Director Level:
We are looking for someone to manage projects throughout the sales and delivery pipeline, handle client discussions, and directly deliver high quality work product based on client needs. From the operational standpoint, the role requires working closely with the client, company principals, and analysts to meet the requirements of the contract. From the business development side, this role includes managing existing client relationships, following up on client leads developed by the company principals, and generating new leads through the company contact database, networking events, or other independent activities. Considerable revenue share is provided based on business development success, along with significant support and collaboration from the Solve REA principals throughout the process.
Required:
- 2+/5+ years of working on asset-driven financing projects, preferably in the renewable energy space, such as solar, wind or energy efficiency, but also traditional fossil fuels, real estate, transportation, infrastructure, or the related. This could be from the finance provider or the developer side.
- 2+ years of experience working on independent projects, or in a consulting role
- Strong knowledge of renewable energy technologies and cleantech business models.
- Strong Excel and Powerpoint skills
- Outstanding networking, client relations, communication, and pitching skills
- Comfort leading and managing people and projects
- Ability to work independently in a self-directed manner to both generate business and deliver client results.
- Bachelors degree in a related field
Ideal for all levels:
- Familiarity with current trends in the cleantech industry
- Strong existing MS excel skills, with comfort entering, processing, and analyzing data.
- Amazing PowerPoint skills, with an eye for designing attractive presentations, investment decks, and diagrams.
- Experience writing business emails, marketing copy, business plans, analytical reports, and/or technical specifications.
- Experience working with energy financing, project finance, VC/angel investing, private equity.
- Experience with credit underwriting, and knowledge of due diligence processes
- Ability to negotiate deal terms, with experience creating and adjusting term sheets
- MBA, JD degree, or an advanced degree relating to the environment, renewable energy, clean technology, policy, or law.
- A desire to have flexible work arrangements where you can work when you want, where you want. Note that tight deadlines may be required when you are assigned to a project, but there may be some time between assignments.
- A desire to grow into a more consistent role in the company. We are growing rapdily, and will have many opportunities for advancement as we develop new clients, both in the northeast and nationally. We will need full time analysts, managers, and business development leaders.
- A desire to build your skills along a valuable career path.
- A drive to do something real to fight climate change.
Please note that this is a contractor position which pays hourly. You will need to supply your own phone and laptop computer. You will need to cover your transportation costs over the course of regular business in the New York City area, but if you are assigned a project that requires additional travel, you will be suitably reimbursed.
For Associate and Director levels, there is an expectation this transition into a full-time non-contractor position once a suitable book of client business has been developed.
