We’re a small prototyping firm located in Downtown Brooklyn. We specialize in scalable digital design, system integration, rapid prototyping, basic SoC programming & CAD/CAM manufacturing.
We design digitally, prototype physically and either manufacturer client projects on-site or through larger manufacturers.
We are looking for a new group of unpaid interns to work in our studio. Interns will be instructed in-person with weekly lessons in:
— basic 2D design
— basic 3D design
— rapid prototyping of designs via PLA or similar
— use of CAD/CAM for routing
— rudimentary design technology theory and practice
— basic electronics
— system integration via simple SoC’s, e.g. Arduino
Interns are provided lunch, no transportation.
All intern work will be for the benefit of the studio internally; all client work that interns may perform is paid. This is a hard and fast rule.
After instruction, interns will be challenged to apply what they have learned in the form of projects for the studio space. This is a collaborative space and collaborative projects are the basis of our work—this is absolutely part of our internship program.
Applicants are required to able able to:
— Lift a 25 pound box
— Work continuously on a computer for at least 3 hours
— Dexterously manipulate tools (after instruction) and prototypes
Preference will be given to applicants:
— Already familiar with basic 2D design (e.g., raster/vector, Photoshop/GIMP, Illustrator/Inkscape, etc)
— Already familiar with some 3D design (e.g., Blender, freeCAD, Fusion360, SketchUp etc)
— A strong aptitude for learning and improvising
Availability required:
— At least once a week, for a 4 hour session
— Sessions are during business hours, generally starting either in the morning or afternoon
— There will be ‘homework’ of at least 2 hours a week
— Usually 3-6 months, depending upon applicant
Tardiness, absence, late notice of upcoming absence or failure to complete assignments is not acceptable; please do not apply if you cannot devote the time required.
We look forward to hearing from you!
