Compensation: $18.00 - $20.00 + Tips (DOE)

As a key and valued member of Gjelina NYC, you will be crucial in creating exceptional guest experiences through effective communication, teamwork, and a strong work ethic. Your responsibilities will include supporting the Expeditor, Servers, and Managers in delivering food to guests in a friendly, professional manner while assisting with beverage orders. Additionally, you will help maintain the cleanliness and organization of the venue, efficiently set and reset tables, and stay composed and organized in a fast-paced environment before, during, and after service.

Qualifications for an experienced Runner and Busser in an upscale dining setting

Relevant Experience: Two years as minimum proven experience as a runner or busser in a high-end or upscale dining establishment, with a strong understanding of refined service standards. (Minimum two years of experience)

Professionalism and Grooming: Exceptional personal presentation, with attention to detail in attire, grooming, and overall hygiene to meet the standards of a dining environment.

Advanced Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with servers, managers, and guests, ensuring smooth coordination and a high level of service.

Exceptional Attention to Detail: Strong focus on cleanliness, organization, and maintaining immaculate dining areas, including proper table settings, resetting, and polishing of glassware and silverware.

Efficiency Under Pressure: Capacity to remain calm and focused during peak service times, ensuring timely table turnovers and swift handling of service requests.

Guest-Centered Approach: A deep understanding of the importance of creating a seamless guest experience, anticipating needs, and providing prompt service with a warm, professional attitude.

Knowledge of Fine Dining Protocols: Familiarity with upscale restaurant standards, including knowledge of dining etiquette, proper glassware, and fine table settings.

Team-Oriented: Collaborative spirit with a strong emphasis on teamwork, supporting colleagues to maintain service flow and meet guest expectations.

Flexibility and Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing service needs, work in a fast-paced environment, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining quality.

Safety and Sanitation Knowledge: Adherence to health and safety regulations, including food handling, sanitation, and compliance with all relevant protocols to ensure the safety of guests and staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Guest Service & Relations: Build rapport with regular guests and encourage new guests to return by remembering their preferences. Collaborate with servers, Expo, and management to ensure smooth service flow.

Table Management & Dish Handling: Efficiently clear, reset, and set tables with proper settings throughout service to ensure quick turnovers. Work with Bussers and Servers to clear and deliver dishes, ensuring proper placement, presentation, and timing.

Venue Cleanliness & Service Area Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness across dining areas, server stations, and beverage stations. Organize and clean Expo stations, stocking and preparing for service at the start and end of shifts. Manage trash bins and sanitation buckets as needed.

Operational Support & Floorplan Mastery: Prepare the floor for service by stocking and cleaning, ensuring proper service flow. Understand the venue’s floor plan, table numbers, and seating arrangements to provide efficient service.

Health, Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all health, safety, alcohol control, and sanitation protocols, including proper chemical handling and maintaining high personal hygiene standards.

Beverage & Food Knowledge: Prepare coffee, soft drinks, and run drinks when time allows, ensuring accuracy and speed. Be familiar with all the menu items and their ingredients and be prepared to describe them to guests.

Time Management & Punctuality: Arrive on time, clock in, and manage breaks in compliance with New York Labor Law. Communicate with managers when leaving the floor.

Training & Development: Attend mandatory training sessions and pre-shift meetings to stay updated on procedures and expectations.

Additional Support: Assist management with service-related tasks or events as needed.
