About Us:
Brooklyn Habit is a beloved neighborhood café at 405 Smith Street in Carroll Gardens, known for great coffee and community vibes. We're launching our first-ever food program and need a talented cook to help us build it from scratch.
The Opportunity:
This is a part-time prep position (2-3 times per week) with serious creative potential. You'll:
Prep fresh soups, salads, and bruschetta boards in batches
Package items for baristas to sell throughout the week
Work independently in our full kitchen (oven, full equipment)
Collaborate on menu development - we want YOUR ideas!
Help design and refine our food program as we grow
Current menu ideas: Chopped salads, soups, bruschetta boards - but we're open to your suggestions and expertise.
Why This Role Is Special:
Creative freedom: Shape a brand-new menu at an established coffee shop (wine coming soon!)
Resume builder: Launch a food program from the ground up
Flexible schedule: Work 2-3 days/week on your own timeline
Collaborative owner: I want to hear your ideas and make this better together
Full kitchen access: Everything you need to execute your vision
Ideal For:
Aspiring cooks looking to build their portfolio
Experienced cooks wanting creative control
Culinary students seeking real-world menu development experience
Anyone passionate about fresh, quality café food
What We're Looking For:
Cooking experience (restaurant, catering, culinary school, or home chef)
Strong organizational skills and food safety knowledge
Self-motivated and reliable
Creative mindset with ideas to share
Comfortable working independently
Schedule & Logistics:
Hours: Part-time, 2-3 days per week (flexible days/times)
Location: 405 Smith Street, Carroll Gardens
Start: January, but I would love to meet ASAP and discuss how we can launch the food program successfully!
