JOB DESCRIPTION
The Prep and Packaging Lead oversees the daily preparation, portioning, and packaging of fruit and snack items. This position is responsible for delegating tasks, training team members, and ensuring high standards of food safety and quality. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to oversee a collaborative team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Team Supervision:
Lead team, provide guidance on technique, workflow, and food safety practices.
Delegate & communicate tasks.
Ensure all tasks are completed correctly.
Quality and Safety Assurance: oversee safe food handling practices (correct use of gloves, handling of ready to eat foods, etc.).
Problem Solve and troubleshoot any production issues or staff questions, provide effective solutions.
Adhere to and enforce all Health and Safety Standards to ensure a safe, compliant kitchen.
Make sure tasks are completed on time. Alert supervisor of any issues or if it looks like there will be overtime.
Oversee employee performance and report issues to the supervisor.
Prep & Packaging:
Prepare, cut, portion, and package fresh fruit and snacks with care, ensure consistent presentation and quality.
Oversee the portioning and packaging process to meet product standards and minimize waste.
Maintain & organize inventory, coordinate returns as necessary.
Oversee the accurate packing of fruit, snacks, and milk for distribution.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Constant standing / walking for 10+ hours at a time.
Must be able to lift, pull, push, and carry 50lbs.
Frequent, continual, intermittent flexing or rotation of the wrist(s) and spine.
Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
Ability to distinguish differences or similarities in quality of flavors and / or odors.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 1 years in a catering or high-volume production kitchen role.
Ability to read spreadsheets and internal charts.
Proven leadership skills: ability to delegate tasks, provide feedback, and support a collaborative, positive work environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of food safety and sanitation. NYC DOHMH Food Handlers Permit preferred.
Ability to problem solve; assess kitchen & workflow issues.
Must be extremely well organized and have the ability to multitask.
Strong verbal communication skills; bilingual Spanish and English is a plus.
HOURS: Sunday - Thursday 8am to 4pm or until the job is complete. Occasional holidays may be required.
