Our family is seeking FULL TIME / PART TIME RNs (2-4 shifts /wk) for continuity of skilled care for our charming and busy 22 year old son who has disabilities (ambulatory). Hiring for DAYs and NIGHTs, including WEEKENDS (shifts are 7AM-7PM and 7PM to 7AM) of private duty nursing homecare/community/school for our active son.
Our son has his own apartment in our building and spends most of his days there but continues to have a bedroom and sleeps in our larger apartment in the same building.
We, the parents, are placing this ad - but we have 24/7 PDN benefit and your communication will be with us and the head of our son's nursing agency who manages his case for 14+ years now.
If you are flexible to travel to Long Island (some weekends / family vacations) - please indicate and we can discuss.
DIAGNOSES: (i) Severe Short Bowel Syndrome (ileostomy, G-Tube, and eats orally, (ii) Stroke (ambulatory; motor apraxia, vision, and speech challenges), (iii) Seizure Disorder (medication controlled), (iv) Developmental Delays, (v) history of multiple surgeries - adhesions. He has many interests.
This is a very rewarding job to positively impact his progress and become a member of our extended family as well as a key member of his amazing team. He/we need CONTINUITY of SKILLED RN CARE.
Team includes great collaborative educators and therapists and nationally recognized experts and consultants, medical team, and our involved extended family.
Our son is in stroke recovery mode (brain plasticity) and continues to make progress in all areas.
He was consistently educated in general education classrooms
with supports, assistive technology, and services. He is funny, social, and active, and receives multiple services and recently graduated with his Regents Diploma. We and his team are now working with him to transition to the next phase in his life. Overall, a GREAT positive team. Orientation and on-going support will be provided

RN DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Strict hygiene control, COVID Safety, Health Precautions, Meds.
- Responsible for full care, assist with ADLs and supporting communication and partnering alongside his terrific medical / educational / therapeutic team and family.
- Administering and preparing precise and punctual feedings (oral and GT pump) and medications.
- Strict I&Os. Detailed observations of ostomy output given severe short bowel syndrome. Diet trials and feeding tolerance (you will receive training).
-Ostomy care and skin care, neurological monitoring, fluid and electrolyte monitoring and replacement.
- RNs must be respectful, patient, flexible and willing to work collaboratively within his educational and therapeutic team. Willingness to actively participate to support our son as he is a busy young man.
- Organizing supplies, belongings, materials + equipment, maintaining positive communication, and being a positive team player
Our RN team includes members with us for MANY years and have a variety of pediatric
hospital experience (NICU, PICU, ER, or pediatric floor nurses, travel nurses, NPs (Nurse Practitioners) too.
Competitive Pay ($65+ per hour) with potential bonuses possible.

You MUST have:

1/ Valid NY State RN (Registered Nurse) License, current PALS /ACLS, TB test (PPD), Flu and COVID-19 Vaccinations current, additional certifications let us know
2/ Minimum of TWO years of hospital experience - PREFERRED - pediatric / critical care / ER preferred/ Travel RNs welcome!
3/ Strong judgment and communication skills
4/ Have a POSITIVE and patient personality and believe in the rights of full inclusive lives for people with disabilities
5/ A plus if you have interest in technology and photography and music
