Grand Bazaar NYC is a social mission-based company. It is the largest, oldest, and most dynamic and diverse curated weekly (flea) market in New York City. It’s the market of New York City. Home to many local and talented artists, designers, craft makers, independent vintage and antique dealers, and artisanal food entrepreneurs. Throughout the year it also organizes various special themed events and pop-ups. It’s the funding source for four neighborhood public schools, benefiting over 2,000 children, by donating 100% of its profits. Furthermore, it provides much-needed affordable retail space to independent merchants selling one-of-a-kind, rare, and limited-edition goods. YOUR ROLL:

The Market Maintenance role will be responsible for doing whatever is necessary to ensure that our merchants (customers) and visitors (shoppers) have the best possible experience while at the market. Duties and responsibilities include setting up tents, tables and chairs, assisting merchants with load-ins/outs, and cleaning the indoor and outdoor areas before, during, and after the market’s operational hours. Ensuring that all equipment is clean and safe for merchants and visitors. Must be able to work all day on Sundays and occasionally on Saturdays.

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

Working with various team members, merchants and management to ensure that the market has a flawless day.

Doing what is needed and right to complete the tasks and achieve the required and best possible outcomes.

Setting-up the indoor and outdoor market areas with tents, tables, and chairs, including lifting and moving cafeteria equipment.

Placing and moving tents, tables, and chairs as instructed.

Ensuring that all tents have the necessary wights when set-up and that all tents (vendors and ours) are secure.

Hanging signage around the premises, where instructed.

Placing trash bins throughout the market, and regularly inspecting and replacing filled bags.

Assisting merchants with load-in/out as needed.

Assisting merchants with removing broken glass, bulky items, etc.

Maintaining a clean and safe market space, both indoors and outdoors, and the surrounding area around the market.

When needed, remove snow, ice and standing water.

Organizing and upholding all storage rooms and areas, making sure everything is orderly and safe.

Managing inventory and maintaining the equipment, including repairs.

Alerting Supervisor/Management of any issues and concerns.

Ensuring that at end-of-the-day all equipment is stowed away correctly, and that all areas are cleared and clean, the trash bags are placed neatly in the dedicated area, and that all doors and gates are locked, including the parking lot area.

Performing other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or equivalent.

We are a small team, therefore, everyone is very hands-on; hence you must be able to work independently and handle many different tasks in a team-originated environment.

Ability to lift and carry up to 60lbs.

Give full attention to the work at hand to minimize issues (tent weights not secured, equipment and trash left behind).

Ability to work with merchants without anticipation of remuneration (tips).

Dependability — Job requires being reliable, responsible, dependable, and fulfilling obligations.

Self Control — Job requires maintaining composure, keeping emotions in check, controlling anger, and avoiding aggressive behavior, even in very difficult situations.

Stress Tolerance — Job requires accepting criticism and dealing calmly and effectively with high-stress situations and a wide range of personalities.

Ability to prioritize to ensure efficiency and overall positive outcomes.

Possess stamina and resilience to work a full day at the market - standing and walking for extended periods of time, sometimes in extreme temperatures.

At all times be positive, responsible, collaborative and professional personality.

Work Sundays, and occasionally Saturdays, and must start at 6am and stay until everything is completed, cleaned, and stored away.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

$17.00 per hour

Annual end-of-year discretionary bonus

Company matching 401K contribution.

The primary work location will be at the market located 77th St. & Columbus Ave., Manhattan. At times can be asked to work at other locations.
