PRACTICE OVERVIEW
We are a new law firm opening in January 2025. Practice area will be criminal law. Law firm will be headquartered in the District of Columbia with a second office in New York. Law firm will operate under DC Rules of Professional Responsibility ยง5.4(b) which allow for nonlawyer investor partners in the law firm.
Law firm will provide Clients in New York ranging from criminal law cases to DUI cases. During the month of January, law firm is expected to have around twenty (20) Clients in New York. Attorney will receive 40% ownership in the firm in exchange for his/her labor. Law firm will also pay for DC Bar Waiver, Travel, etc. There should be no out-of-pocket expenses for the Attorney partner. As the caseload increases, Associates will be hired to assist on cases.
Attorney should expect to handle around ten (10) DUI cases per month in New York along with larger criminal law cases per the Attorney's professional judgment. Attorney will be paid per case, on a case by case basis, at 40% of the Client fee. Attorney has the right to accept or decline cases. Law firm will be competing against other firms, so the Attorney must be able to accept or decline cases within 24 hours. If the Attorney declines too many cases or is consistently too slow to respond to prospective Clients, the Attorney will be removed from the law firm.
