My firm, JPG Legal, is a high-volume trademark prosecution law firm. Our clients all hire us through our website, jpglegal.com. We don't really handle litigation, but our clients sometimes need it. Usually the litigation relates to trademarks, and it's usually at the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB). But sometimes it's at the state level in New York, or at the federal level. And occasionally it might not even relate to trademark law.
We're looking for a NY-licensed litigator with a solo practice to handle our litigation at an hourly rate. You would keep 60% of our firm's $340 hourly rate ($204). Though we are open to raising our firm's hourly rate if that's too low for litigation. You'd be listed on our website's "About" page as "Of Counsel" at our firm. You must have your own malpractice insurance or be willing to get it soon.
I don't know how much work we would really be sending you, but it's not anywhere near enough to sustain a practice, so you should have other clients or be doing this as a side hustle. There might be months were we send you two or three cases, and there will definitely be months where we don't send you anything. Most of our clients are very small businesses that don't have a budget for litigation, but a few of them do.
This is a fully remote job and you will not be expected to be "on call" during any particular hours. We have an office in Industry City, Brooklyn, if you want to say hi, but I'm the only one who uses it, and it would not be available to you to work in. The other lawyer at the firm lives in Buffalo and works fully remotely. We do have meeting room access in Industry City that we could occasionally make available for you if you want to meet with our clients, but we almost never meet with our clients. Most of them are not in the tristate area.
You don't need to know much about trademark law, or have TTAB experience. We want somebody who specializes in litigation, not trademark law. The TTAB is a pretty standard federal administrative law court and follows the standard federal rules, with a convenient online filing system.
