Brooklyn NON-Profit is looking for a talented individual for the position of Housing Specialist

SUMMARY: Managing and directing a comprehensive program of support, safety and success for 20 families that include housing, counseling, benefit entitlements, program placement, health and educational programs and comprehensive case management.
This employee will work as part of the Social Services team with the following essential duties and responsibilities:
Assessing housing history and independent living skills of clients
Help clients in identifying any negative credit history that may impact their apartment search or issues with brokers and landlords
Identifying available housing resources (online, by broker contacts, etc), linking clients to viewings and maintaining an up-to-date directory of these resources
Individual meeting will focus on tenants’ rights, home maintenance/upkeep, and landlord/tenant relationships
Maintaining required case records in written and computer-generated forms, and reporting on same in regular supervisory meetings
Maintaining required housing records in CARES
Assisting clients setup NYCHousing Connect and other housing search APPs in their phones.
Responsible for completion and submission of HHA, NYCHA and other housing applications.
Coordinating housing contracts, referrals and follow-up to service providers including, but not limited to, DHS
Documenting all counseling, referral and discharge planning activities in client folders
Participating in case conferences, staff meetings and other meetings/training as assigned
Adhering to DHS timeframes for permanent housing placing
Attend required DHS meetings and trainings
Perform other duties as it relates to the Housing Specialist position.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS OF A HOUSING SPECIALIST:
Educational Requirements:
Minimum GED/Highschool
Associates/Bachelor's degree preferred
Proficient in computer skills (email, MS Office, internet browsing)
Experience:
One (1) plus years’ experience working with homeless population
Exceptional knowledge of regional housing, supportive housing, Section 8 and other rental assistance programs (willingness to learn)
Skill Sets:
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Strong PC skills including Outlook, Word, Excel
Languages:
Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred.

Compensation:
$35,000 - $37,400 yearly salary
Paid time off
This opportunity is for a FULL TIME position Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
