Scope of PositionThe successful candidate would work in the Devices & Systems directorate in Corning’s Research and Development Division. The position will apply optical physics and engineering expertise to developing new applications of Corning materials in optical devices and systems. Day to Day Responsibilities
Design and develop fiber-coupled or free-space optical systems and opto-mechanical components
Specify and integrate software for controls or data acquisition within optical systems
Collaborate with colleagues to develop and execute experiment plans
Document system designs and new insights in reports and invention disclosures

Required Education and SkillsRequired Skills:
Demonstrated working knowledge of optics and optical properties of materials
Practical experience designing and executing experimental optics
Demonstrated experience in numerical analysis techniques
Demonstrated experience in logic programming and controls such as Matlab, R, Python, C, or similar packages/languages
Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
Required education:
PhD degree in optics, physics, electrical engineering or equivalent
Desired Skills
Working knowledge of light-matter interactions and optical systems design
Experience using commercial optical modeling software packages
Experience with automation of laboratory equipment
This position supports immigration sponsorship. The range for this position is $93,318.00 - $128,313.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
