Description We are seeking a Staff Accountant to join our team in STONY BROOK, New York, United States. This role presents an opportunity to be involved in the accounting and financial reporting processes within our organization. As a Staff Accountant, you will be tasked with providing analytical support and making informed recommendations to the Controller's Office and the University.Responsibilities Augment support for accounting and financial reporting during the ERP implementation project period Conduct specialized analytical tasks employing various reporting tools such as SUNY Bl, Tableau, OBIEE, Microsoft Excel, and Access Gather, examine, and develop data pertinent to the Controller’s Office and the University Make informed recommendations based on the data analysis Handle GAAP financial reporting and internal controls Quickly and efficiently learn new processes to allow current staff to focus on ERP implementation Gather, analyze, and evaluate complex information in accounting information systems (PeopleSoft) Mine data from large data sets Utilize Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel, to perform advanced formulas and functions Exhibit excellent analytical and critical problem-solving skills to identify key issues and use inductive reasoning in complex situations Maintain a strong customer service orientation, superior interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities. Requirements Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field. Proven experience as a Staff Accountant or similar role. Demonstrable knowledge and experience with Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR). Proficiency in performing Bank Reconciliations. Familiarity with maintaining the General Ledger. Experience in preparing Journal Entries. Ability to manage Month End Close processes. Proficiency in using accounting software such as NetSuite, Oracle, QuickBooks, and SAP. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines. Good verbal and written communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of accounting principles and best practices. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Willingness to continuously improve and learn new skills.
