Performs comprehensive respiratory assessment.
Uses assessment data to determine patient's actual or potential problems.
Compares prescription requisition with medical record order to ensure accuracy.
Collaborates with physicians on patient's plan of care.Ensures prescription contains complete information. Clarifies any discrepancies with physician.
Determines appropriate respiratory interventions, evaluates patient's responses to respiratory care and adjusts care as appropriate.
Provides patient/significant other with respiratory therapy education.
Explains purpose of treatment or test to the patient/significant other.
Explains treatment or test and equipment used to patient/significant other.
Answers all questions courteously and correctly.
Provides prescribed respiratory therapy.
Performs bedside vital capacity, inspiratory force and peak flow measurements.
Administers various oxygen concentrations, aerosol medication devices and mechanical ventilators.
Oversees oxygen supported ambulation.
Performs chest physical therapy i.e cupping and coughing.
Provides and maintains mechanical ventilators on assigned unit.
Immediately responds to Cardiac Team and STAT situations.
Provides nasotracael or artificial airway suctioning.
Performs intubation.
Performs arterial blood gas puncture and analysis.
Documents all activities and patient outcomes/responses on approved hospital forms.
Prepares, operates and maintains respiratory care equipment
Maintains inventory of respiratory care equipment and supplies.
Performs preventative maintenance, cleaning, disinfecting and storage of equipment.
Ensures proper functioning and correct use of equipment.
Adheres to established infection control and fire safety protocols.
Performs related duties, as required.
ADA Essential FunctionsJob Qualification
High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
Certificate of completion from an accredited respiratory therapy program, required. Bachelor's Degree, preferred.
Current NYS Respiratory Therapist license, required.
Certification and/or Registration from the National Board of Respiratory Care, required.
Current Basic Life Support Certification, required.
