Job Summary: Responsible for performing journeyman level work as a Plumber/Steamfitter and semi-skilled work in refrigeration and HVAC. Will assist in carrying out projects, and may supervise and instruct lower grade incumbents as needed; will read blueprints and maintain new and existing equipment. Specific duties are as follows but not limited to: Performs journeyman level Plumbing/Steamfitting work in the installation, alteration, and repair of kitchen and patient care equipment, medical gas systems, pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, heating control, domestic water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes. Performs semi-skilled refrigeration work such as troubleshooting, calibration, charging recovering and reclaiming refrigeration on a variety of systems such as coolers, ice machines, refrigerator chillers. Performs semi-skilled HVAC work such as steam and hydronic systems, chilled water systems, and unit heaters. Have a working knowledge of applicable plumbing codes regulations, mathematics of the plumbing, refrigeration, and HVAC trades, ability to read, interpret and work from plans, drawings, and specifications; working knowledge of hot water and steam heating systems and control devices. Must be able to perform moderate to heavy lifting. Person must be free from beard and facial hair that may interfere with the fit or seal of a mask respirator at the time of fit testing. Such a mask must be worn in order to comply with State & Federal Safety Health Codes. Must possess and maintain a valid New York State driver's license.Minimum Qualifications: Four years of full time experience in the Plumber trade under a skilled journeyman which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprentice training in the plumbing trade or training gained by the completion of technical courses in a trade school or institute may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis.
