Job description:
The Plant Maintenance Technician is responsible for monitoring, repairing, and maintaining all plant systems and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations. This includes, but is not limited to, balers, conveyor belts, gearboxes, motors, pulleys, shafts, and bearings. The Technician responds to equipment failures, performs corrective action, and ensures all systems are operating properly. This position reports to the Plant Maintenance Manager (site-dependent).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
To perform this role successfully, an individual must be able to execute each duty satisfactorily. Other related tasks may be assigned.
Perform equipment repairs in compliance with Waste Management Safety & Life Critical Rules and OSHA requirements.
Conduct preventive maintenance inspections (PM), diagnose issues, and repair/rebuild major equipment, including:
Balers, conveyors, hydraulic power packs, eddy currents, electro-magnetic belts, optical sorters, diverters, compressors, trash compactors, motors, glass breakers, wire tie systems, fans, pumps, forklifts, loaders, and facility equipment.
Maintain Daily Equipment Inspection (DEI) backlog.
Adjust work procedures to meet production schedules; notify Plant Maintenance Manager if work cannot be completed within Standard Repair Times (SRTs).
Inspect quality of third-party repairs/rebuilds.
Recommend improvements to enhance production, equipment performance, and product quality.
Respond to service calls for emergency breakdowns.
Manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
Work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, to support facility needs.
Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Minimum 2 years of relevant maintenance experience.
Certificates/Licenses/Other Requirements
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
Ability to meet physical demands of the position (with or without reasonable accommodation).
Must pass pre-employment drug screen, physical, background check, employment verification, criminal history, and MVR review.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Working knowledge of single- and three-phase electrical systems.
Knowledge of electrical control systems, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic systems (including compressors).
Ability to safely operate tools/equipment used in repair and servicing.
Skilled in diagnosing and repairing a wide range of equipment and vehicles.
Work Environment
Requires motor coordination with arm, hand, finger, and leg dexterity.
Regular physical effort required, including lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, and twisting (up to lbs; site-specific).
Frequent exposure to dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes, and similar elements throughout the workday.
