As a Heavy Equipment Operator Apprentice with Merit Apprenticeship Alliance, you will be provided classroom and on-the-job training in the Heavy Equipment Operator trade. The OJT tasks involve physical labor on building, highway and heavy construction projects. Minorities and women are encouraged to apply.
Apprentices will learn how to safely perform pre and post - operational checks, operate and maintain the following equipment:
Rollers and Compacting Machines
Graders
Bulldozers
Tractors, Loaders
Trenching Machines
Shovels & Backhoes
Pumps
Pavers (gutter, concrete)
Concrete saws, pavement breakers
Concrete, stone, asphalt spreaders, screed, finishing machines.
Pumps, Sewer pumps and related equipment.
The first assignment for this apprenticeship position will be season-long heavy highway assignment in Hamilton County.
Classroom training is provided during the non-construction season. Supplemental unemployment insurance may be available when completing classroom training.
Education Level Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience Required: None
License Required: Valid Driver's License. In addition, apprentices must provide their own reliable transportation to and from job sites and to all related instruction. Apprentices must be willing to travel for the purpose of successfully completing on-the-job training through employment assignments.
Apprentices will, as a condition of continued enrollment in the program, pass a drug test, and be subject to random drug testing, in compliance with our Drug Free Commitment.
Salary: $14 per hour (on private work) in the first term
Wages increase based on the apprentices' successful completion of the OJT and classroom training.
Wages on "public work" are approximately 20% higher.
